Are you meeting the new ACGME requirements for resident/faculty wellbeing?

September 6, 2019

The latest ACGME Common Program Requirements (CPR Section VI. C. [Wellbeing]) put a renewed emphasis on patient safety and resident and faculty wellbeing.

ACGME determined this emphasis was important because:

- Residents and faculty have an increased risk for burnout and depression when compared to the general population

- Self-care and a focus on psychological, emotional, and physical wellbeing are critical in the development of a competent, caring, and resilient physician

- Programs have the same responsibility to address wellbeing as they do to evaluate other aspects of resident competence

The Institute for Physician Integration has put together a program to address the new requirements and foster a wellbeing-focused workplace culture.
